Eye Candy Typology
White-haired bastards, subtype:
cold-blooded, serious, damned powerful
Well, "bastard" is not a nice word, but it is what comes to one's mind when we look at them. They are bad to the bone and love it... and the white or grey-haired ones are sure to leave their mark in many manga and anime series as very charismatic characters.
This is neither the first nor the only page about those very special characters. I know there is at least another page in the Web dedicated to the white-haired bastards, as its author put it (sorry, but I've forgotten her name, gomen nasai !...) and when I read it I've started to thing of those characters as a "category" and that gave birth to the whole eye candy typology thing, after all.
White-haired bad boys are those no hero would like to be pitched against. According to the symbolism regarding hair colors in anime and manga (see more about it clicking HERE), white or gray-haired characters have great spiritual power, intelligence and self-control, which in the East are usually attributed to mature people. Although extremely powerful, such characters prefer not to get involved in fights. They usually impose themselves through their wisdom and keep their calm under any circumstances, which often has roots in emotional issues that make them cold and distant. They seem to have ice in their veins and look down at anyone else, since everybody looks like children beside their great power and wisdom.
Besides that they are incredibly classy and never lose their composure under any circumstances - which makes them even more terrifying in the few occasions they get really mad. However, such characters very often find their doom in their excessive self-confidence, since they never dream that weaker characters can become more powerful than they are or even that envious subordinates can betray them, and only realize too late how fatal this can be...
Although I have listed them among the "bad guys", white-haired characters are not necessarily villains. They just seem not to fit into any group or to adhere to a cause and simply refuse to submit to anyone, leaving in isolation or attaching themselves to a few special people. They insist in making it very clear that they do not care for anyone around them, but actually they are always very aware of their surroundings and are always ready to act quickly and very efficiently when needed.
They obey only their own instincts and do not hesitate in joining unscrupulous people or acting in not very honorable ways, as long as it takes them to their goals. Thus, they very often seem to "choose the wrong side" in going against the hero but, once have made their minds, they continue in their tracks to the bitter end, even knowing that they have maybe made a wrong choice.
They very seldom engage in physical combat and prefer to use blades, whips or even their immense spiritual power. They are usually slim and tall and keep their clothes and hair impeccable. Unlike many other kinds of characters, they use to display as little of their body as possible, very often favoring long sleeves and turtleneck shirts (what a pity!), although some of them are nice enough to favor us girls with sleeveless tunics or a peek of their chest...
From left to right and top to bottom:
Malachite/Kunzite (Sailor Moon - the latter is his original Japanese name), Sesshomaru (Inu Yasha), Gai (Surato), Inov (Magic Knight Rayearth), Akira and Shinrei (Samurai Deeper Kyo), Malik (Yugi-Oh), Ruka (Saint Beast), Kabuto (Naruto). (Some images can be seen bigger by clicking on them).

These other characters are no "villains" or antagonists, but we often can't make our mind whether they are friends or enemies, since they insist on stating that they are on no one's side but their own: Migera (Samurai Deeper Kyo), Eyes (Spiral), Youko Kurama (Yu Yu Hakusho), Nue (Harukanaru Toki no naka de)
