Sexy, smirking cold-blooded bastard
Well, "bastard" is not a nice word, but it is what comes to one's mind when we look at them. They are bad to the bone and love it. There is always a little sarcastic smirk on their faces, just as if everybody and everything were just dust on their shoes.
But the worst part is that, despite it all, they are just amazing and we catch ourselves cheering them and hoping that they would wipe the floor with the "good guy" yet again, in that classy style of theirs. It is obvious that they will get defeated in the end, since Good must always prevail over Evil, but it usually happens more because of some mistake from them, since they are always as much or even more powerful than the good guys. By Japanese logics, it is not worthy to fight against an inferior opponent, thus, for the hero to get his share of glory he must face and defeat an extremely powerful enemy and transcend his limits. And these guys are not here to play games!
Actually, it was this kind of character that led me to build this gallery, since it really calls one's attention as often this "model" appears with very slight changes in several series. I use to think of them as the "Schuldig type", as it was the character of Weiβ Kreuz that first attracted my attention to these charming, sarcastic villains. They are always tall and very lean, fair-skinned and very often wear a bandana to held their unruly long hair, always ready to fall and hide their faces. It was the bandana that make me realize that this is a "basic model" for a "weasel-like, sexy and classy" kind of villain, but also for characters that seem to be villains at first, but afterwards end up by helping the good guys and becoming precious allies (in their own fashion).
Take a look at them and see if they do not deserve to have their smirks wiped out of their faces with a good jab... However, at the same time they conquer us through their strong personality and (apparent) control of any situation. Actually they very often have an anguished soul and (parallel to the "silent heroes") use sarcasm and disdain as a mask to defend themselves from a world that has never offered them any kindness.
From top to bottom:
Schuldig (Weiβ Kreuz - no, his name is not "shulderige", as you see in some fansubs, but schuldig, that is German for "guilty"), Gyasa (Shinzo), Vicious (Cowboy Bebop), Kotaro (Samurai Deeper Kyo),
Orochimaru (Naruto).

The next ones are not actually "bad guys", but they are also not exactly "sweet boys" and I wouldn't turn my back on them, as they always make a point of keeping his "bad boy attitude": Gojyo (Saiyuki), Faust VIII (Shaman King) and Kujaku (RG Veda) (Click on the images to see them bigger).
No money is being made through this page. All mentioned series and characters belong to their respective legal owners. Pictures from the sites Forbidden (Schuldig); The Best of Shinzo (Gyasa) ; Scans! Orange Blosson net (Gojyou); Shaman King House (Fausto); Anime Art: Cowboy Bebop (Vicious); Nishin's RG Veda Gallery (Kujaku). Kohako and Orochimaru are screen captures by yours truly... Since I have been surfing the Net a lot to find the pictures, it is possible that I have mixed some credits. If this should happen, please contact me so that I can correct my mistake. Doumo arigatou!
