Eye Candy Typology
Soft and intellectual
These are the "yuppies" in anime and manga. They are always impeccably dressed, well-spoken, intellectual-looking and do everything just perfectly, which extends even to their way of speaking, extremely formal and correct (specially prominent in Japanese). Next to them, all other characters look untidy and clueless, but despite that the soft-intellectual ones are usually considered as good, dependable friends and important allies.
Their look is obvious: hair neatly combed, classical, impeccable clothing (including expensive suits), and what seems to be their most typical trait: their glasses (or monocle, in Hakkai's case). They lend them that air of serious, hard-studying people that we tend to associate with scholars.
They usually observe everyone and everything in an analytical way, letting their emotions aside for the sake of rationality. However, this doesn't mean that they are cold or devoid of feelings. On the contrary, just like the "silent ones", they hide their immense sensitivity behind a calm, indifferent mask, as the only way they see to protect their loved ones for their own strength (and the others' lack of self-control...).
The "soft ones" are usually secondary characters that lend to the hero the support and advice he lacks to balance his stormy mood. After all, those who think too much to not act, but those who act without thinking are also not always happy, isn't it?
