Good-looking, vain - but - not - less - skillful - in - battle, teasing androgynous character
In a previous page we have already seen male characters with delicate features and suave manners that lend them an androgynous figure. As it was said then, "androgynous" does not necessarily mean "homosexual"
In this page we will also find androgynous characters, but with something else in common: besides being openly vain and very conscious of their beauty (they are very concerned about their looks and specially about their hairstyle, wear lots of adornments and sometimes even make-up), they love to tease their companions and very often have a pretty ambiguous attitude as far as their sexual interests go. Some of them are openly bisexual (as Mirufu-yu in Bakuretsu Hunters), others just appear to be gay without actually being so, as is the case with Benten (whose name means "belle"), in Cyber City Edo 808 .
Anyway, those that underestimate these characters usually meet a very unpleasant end. All of them are pretty good in a fight and, although they sometimes look heedless, they have no pity upon those that are fooled by their delicate looks. Their voices are usually higher pitched than that of most male characters, they speak loud and have a very irritating intonation, but when it comes to the real thing they get serious and put on their best efforts in order to fight and defend those that are precious to them.
Physically they have in common the fact of being usually tall and lean, with delicate features, slim hands and long fingers, without any sign of muscles, although they are not weak by far. They devote great attention to their clothes, hairstyle, attire and make-up and are always pristine, even after a good fight. Their hair can be short or long, but here it is necessary to make a special mention to Benten's looks, which seems very strange nowadays but was very common among J-Rock singers back in the 80s and that probably was inspired on the androgynous figure created by David Bowie back in the 70s.
